STRM - The Tissue of the Multitude

Opening space for mutual learning

January 23, 2026 // 6 p.m. // tranzit sk // Beskydská 12, Bratislava

No one comes into being or exists in isolation. Today, there is a growing fatigue with hyper-individualism, which focuses on the performance of the individual. As a result, collectivity is becoming a natural framework for reflection – it is not a closed form but a fluid tissue. Coexisting consciously connects us with others, sensitizing us to the tension between the “I” and the “we.”

Art historian Iskra Geshoska argues that the tissue of the multitude exists in a continual state of refusal: evading the pull of power mechanisms, cultural-ideological constructs, and capitalist norms. It resists being shaped by the imperatives of dominant cultural dogmas, precisely because it cannot be contained within forms produced by political hierarchies.

Collective education plays a fundamental role in the process of coexisting. If knowledge is constantly transformative, the community can become a living laboratory for new epistemologies. Education does not take place solely through sources and authorities, but through interactions, and emotional and complex situations.

Collective learning makes it possible to pose questions that an individual might never ask. It allows for the transformation of established frameworks that determine what it means to be “normal,” “correct,” or “worthy” of being listened to.

The Tissue of the Multitude, the opening event of tranzit sk’s Study Room creates space for mutual education and begins a series of events that opens up new possibilities for knowing, seeing, acting, sharing, and caring.

-----------------------------------------
Study Room - Platform for Mutual Learning is a project initiated by Judit Angel, Viktoria Gajdošová, and Vivien Kvasnicová.
The Tissue of the Multitude is an event conceived by Damir Daniel Demovič, Hana Ontkocová, and Fanny Elisabeth Pekarčíková.

Robo Švarc is a visual artist, curator, author and translator. Since 2013, Švarc has been preparing regular lectures, discussions, seminars, and workshops both for the broader and professional public as part of his project Lecture Art. The project familiarizes the public with the issues in contemporary art in connection with current social and environmental topics. He studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and is currently working towards is doctorate at UMPRUM in Prague.

Barbora Tribulová is dedicated to educating through art. For many years, she worked as the head of the Department of Gallery Education at the Slovak National Gallery, where she participated in numerous educational programs for diverse groups. She also lectured on the history and theory of art at art high schools and academies, although non-formal education was always closer to her heart. She is currently working on the national project Data on Mental Health and continues to engage in education through art as a professional passion, guided by the belief that the open and safe environment of art fosters interpersonal communication and heightens sensitivity to the world around us.

The Slovak collective Nerast brings the socio-ecological concept of Degrowth (EN) – Décroissance (FR) to Slovakia. It critically questions endless economic growth on a planet with limited resources, and points out that today's economic system systematically exceeds ecological limits and at the same time deepens social inequalities. Degrowth proposes a transformation of the economy towards a system in which human needs, a dignified life, and consideration for the environment are paramount. As part of the event, the collective will present this concept, and you will be able to view and borrow literature on degrowth. A new publication by the Czech degrowth team from the NaZemi organization will also be available for purchase.

The Feeding the Feeding System collective was formed in 2022 as a joint effort by Sarah Valovičová, Viktoria Gajdošová, and Vivien Kvasnicová to research, create, and ultimately become a safe environment. The collaboration became a tool for shared experiences and a healing process, and resulted in the implementation of “community "cooking" workshops which were broadly devoted to radical care through food politics.

misxo is an artist and DJ from Bratislava. His listening style encompasses a wide range of genres, from ambient to trap, cumbia, and everything in between - a smoothie of deep listening wonders, guilty pleasures, and the most secret treasures of internet music.
