The book Keď to nájdeš, dáme ti vedieť (When You Find It, We’ll Let You Know) contains a series of talks among students, graduates and management of Studio vvv. This is a collective, despite that narrow view of the study and work of the Department of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Based on the nature of recent semesters, which at this department focused on deliberations on the possibilities, conditions and boundaries of artistic education, we understand this publication as an extension of our internal debate, a broadening of the field of work and the existence of our collective body.
Several inspirational exchanges of opinions can be found within these four volumes. The first volume is informational and contains a cross-section of activities of Studio vvv since its establishment in August 2018, a pictorial appendix and imprint. The second volume contains a shortened version of small group discussions of our current students. They spoke freely, but within the framework of topics which we defined beforehand. The third volume features conversations with some of our graduates regarding sustainable survival and creation after the completion of artistic studies. The fourth volume entails free exchanges with Martin Piaček, the head of the studio. This final volume also includes the Slovak translation of touching letters between Eva Hesse and Sol LeWitt in the spring of 1965. We perceive their relevance for this publication in the fact that they focus on overcoming doubts regarding one’s own work and the importance of courage and stamina in this process.
Dramaturgy and production: Dávid Koronczi and Petra Nela Pučeková
Studio vvv (visual – verbal – public) was founded in 2018 by artist and pedagogue Martin Piaček and graphic designer and artist Dávid Koronczi at the Department of Intermedia of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Artist Petra Nela Pučeková is currently the studio’s project coordinator. Studio vvv fosters an inclusive and inspirational environment in which art is understood as language, commentary and an attempt to contribute to the individual and communal shaping of the world. We perceive art as a useful and important part of life; however, we continually refer to its captivating nature, its potential to impress as well as its formal differences from other liberal arts and creative practices. The word “public” in the title of our studio refers to the orientation towards work which carries within itself solidarity with other, human and non-human, organic and inorganic actors of planetary processes and visions of better organized futures.
